Racing Madness

Devouring empty roads
lungs full of dirty smoke,
taunting the innocent
these crazy passions,
why fuse rage and danger
this impetuous craze?
Like a moth to light
they're drawn in,
rampage of limited traffic
reminding me of devils
with hot fleshy buttocks,
burning up miles of
hot tar melting in their fury.
I can only watch!
Fear these yob rats
that amuse themselves
by clowning with death.

Love this!
can't help a bit of guilty admiration for the red bummed little raging devils - no traffic, stolen bike and the open road! Hate them too of course - would never do such a thing...on a stolen bike......nowadays.....here. Reminds me though...! Evocative poem, lockm down!

Your description to Di and
Your description to Di and reading again, reminded me of a similar experience with cars, except I think it was that we that were in the wrong place at the wrong time - it was a race? Were they young? Or the rage of Olds? Did you see? Computer game driving is for home!

Jenny! So frightening for you
Jenny! So frightening for you! How did your partner know what to do? You must have both been so happy to get home safely. What a selfish way to take advantage of empty roads by causing such danger and fright for other people. Drawn to risk like a moth to light is a poetic way to put it, you have written a great, fierce poem.

Hi Jenny. It's good that you
Hi Jenny. It's good that you turned it into something creative and beautiful. They have inspired the creation of beauty.
Joyriding kids are just empty headed. They probably can't help themselves. Trees and walls take their toll of them every day. Tragic that they take innocent people with them.
The ones that really depress me are the 35-70 year olds, usually men, often in very large newer cars. It seems to be a superiority mindset with them. It's what draws them to powerful, often German cars (or Range Rovers). If civilisation collapsed, they would be the Milosovic and Mladic of our world. Out of control predatory competitors.
