Good Justice, Wonderful Mercy

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

We long to see justice
– it surely will come –
the perfect, true justice
then seen to be done;
    and then there will be
    a world loving, free.

But what of myself then?
Must I then account
for all of my tempers
– no trifling amount – ?
    Be fit to abide
    where evil can’t hide?

So thankful for justice
God’s power can apply,
so thankful for mercy
received when we cry:
    he’ll pardon, prepare
    his glory to share.

One should be scared of Justice. To be forgiven of sins and cleansed, and forgive others too. That is what its all about.

I suppose we fear justice and judgement when we see our sins and ommissions of serving God, and realise he is holy and Judge. But in hearing his gospel invitation, and receiving his forgiveness and mercy, we can truly rejoice, though still having the reverence for his judgements, and thankful and wanting to please him as we live. It is good to know also that injustice and all wrong will be removed when he makes all new, — no unfairness then! Rhiannon
