For the 185,000 retirees of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in Commemoration of the Expansion of Bristol Airport, February 2022.
Let the cash flow into my spacious Toronto duplex,
Maybe not for many more generations. That’s not my issue.
I want free financial reign for men in dark suits and crisp shirts
to unleash global opportunities in 35 currencies, across 50 countries.
Long-term growth might be negated by melting ice, typhoons, floods and fires.
I require a forward-looking (just so far), equity-heavy, disciplined approach.
Toxic planes, high above my wing-backed chair
boost my blue-chip, fixed-interest stocks.
.
For what it’s worth, I care about the environment -
taught geography for decades.
My world has dwindled to these plush four walls
and communal garden, a grateful refugee tends.
Where, in the dog days of summer, my wife seethed with dementia.
I understand her fury and why our children don’t drop by.
Miscarriages, dysfunctional synapses, memory loss.
Too late to be concerned about pollution.
Another fleeting day fades. There’s still time to monitor the dip and rise of shares.
In the darkling hush, it’s finally snowing; a sullied flurry, light as a feather.
