Unmown ‘lawns’ – plant conglomeration

Golden ‘Cat’s Ears’ flourishing,
where drought and soil unnourishing
has left the grass short, yellowing –
maybe we’ll dig, and make a proper wildflower meadow,
one day;
but on the other lawn, abundance,
of variety – self-heal, cinquefoil and clover
daisies, moss – give ‘lawn’-like cover,
suits well enough for when the grandchildren come
to stay and play,

A lawn of two halves
I like your poem. Nature can be fickle sometimes. One part of the lawn is flourishing the other a work on progress. A one of these days sort of promise.
Well done Rhiannonw

Lovely poem Rhiannon. Isn't
Lovely poem Rhiannon. Isn't it wonderful how hardy nature is? All the flowers in the garden give such great natrual colour and your photos and poem describe their beauty perfectly.
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.

Abundance is right! I love
Abundance is right! I love cats' ears too :0) Do you need to dig it up to make a meadow? It looks like you have a wonderful variety of species right now! Maybe could try plug plants of things like scabious as they can be a bit tricky from seed (at least I have wasted too much money on wildflower seed then read wildflower perennials can be fussy from seed, but if you buy them already started, when mature their seeds settle in fine.) Are your grandchildren interested in all the different flowers and insects?

Some weeds are very pretty -
Some weeds are very pretty - those cats ears can appear like dandelions and they are pretty - Your lawn sounds lovley and that one side nurtured and the other wilting sounds a lot like my lawn here in the heat of the Florida Summer, it is brutal and only the strongest plants and shrubs survive it. I am trying to save my boxwood bushes they have been slowly dying and I think it might be a losing battle but I am trying to give them some added soil nutrients and ph balance and hope nature will do the rest.
