Breakfast, lunch and tea
Mummy, Daddy, me:
1, 2, 3

My dog, my cat and me
1, 2, 3
2 chairs and 1 settee:
1, 2, 3

1, 2, 3
wheels on my ‘bike’ for me
round and round
across the ground:
1, 2, 3

Now we’ve got 1 more
3 and 1 makes 4:
Baby, me and Dad and Mum  –
4 comes after 3, 2, 1!

Grandma’s come to stay
4 and 1 is 5
– I’ve
5 fingers, and 5 toes,
now count my eyes, and ears
and nose!

That's lovely!  I can see this as a picture book for children.  They would love all the repeition and the rhythm of it.

I also see this as a toddler's first counting book with lovley pictures in it. Very well written poem Rhiannon. I loved the flow and content. smiley

Thank you, I do like getting into a child's frame of mind (or remembering my own such time?!). I have grandchildren coming to live in our annexe soon, so hopefully it will help! Rhiannon

Beautiful! Could work well with a skipping rope? You should really do more stories for kids like nursery rhymes and fairytales and that. Do you have children Rhiannon? &

Thank you! Yes, I've got children, and grandchildren, and some of the grandchildren are well into teenage years and beyond now, but two are very young, so it all helps to keep on a youthful thought-line! Also I helped run a Toddler group for quite a while recently. Rhiannon

I can't believe I missed this one Rhiannon,

what a wonderful way to teach a young child to count. Adding up was never one of my favourite subjects to learn as a child, but you've made it such fun here in your poem.

Like Penny said I could see it as a picture book too. Can you remember those cloth material books for the very young that you could wash? Well I just thought that would be a great way to display this poem.

Yes, those rags books were fun weren't they – although a bit difficult to turn the pages sometimes! So much has become plastic, but I suppose that's changing,
