Here Birdie
By Richard L. Provencher
- 2005 reads
These older eyes
see a crusade
at the food trough
a spirit of young
sparrows
proudly feathered.
An acquired hobby
photo-watching birds
as children in
frisky abandon-
mine grown up
into faraway places.
But I can dream
within the antics
of chickadee-flirting
from branch to feeder
blue jays thumping
across the porch-railing-
a feeding frenzy
not unlike the habits
of my own children.
Yes I remember their
outbursts of excitement
such memories ago
this wrinkled skin
a gift of time.

What a lovely metaphor -birds
What a lovely metaphor -birds to children- their playful antics and hungry frenzy are very relatable. Your poem is sweetly reminiscent of time passing and life changing and oh yes, that lovely gift from time – wrinkles.

gentle modest dignity
Sparrows are the most beautiful of birds, in their common, gentle modest dignity &&
Always warm and kind, loving, cheerful and playful. See you then Richard!
