The Birthday Girl

Brielle led a group
of 3-4 year olds in what
she called a run-run
as they headed in a
meandering style
to the party table
guarded by two parents
making sure flying
creatures didn’t spoil
this special day.
Her thoughts of tasty
goodies had moved them
along a little too quickly
golden locks-a-flying.
Some tripped in the grass
and rolled around delightfully
their singing and screeching
had a few parents almost weeping.
from fatigue.
During the celebration
grandpa asked “Did you have
a good party as he lifted her
high in the air. Yes. Yes.
So how old are you? he teased.
I’m free granddad. I’m free.
Grandpa proud.
