That isn’t real

The future is the future
Now is now

It’s what it is
Nothing more, or less

I take your point and what you say is no doubt true and as always, well expressed, however I wonder how you feel about the 'what did happens' and the 'what could of happeneds,'

Personally, those are the ones I find hard to deal with. :)

Aaaaaaah, the rear-view mirror of regret!

I suppose the argument there is that we might not have the good things, either that are with us now or that we've experienced along the way, had we not taken the path we did. Having said that, we would have experienced other things instead. Try telling that to your kids or your partner.

This one might be more an attempt at living in the moment. A poor attempt, but an attempt. Stimulated by some reading over a rare pint in York.

It had me thinking about this cloud of chaotic events that we spend our lives tumbling around in and how it is just possible to organise the bits of chaos in one's vicinity just sufficiently to steer an unsteady course for a while. It takes some luck and some energy to make modest headway, but it can be done (he said, batting a spider off the duvet).

but like all of us I have some. What I meant was curiosity about events and decision that did or didn't change the course of our lives.

For me I suppose the best example that comes to mind at the moment of writing is the decision I made at the age of 14 when we had to decide what subject matter we would concentrate on for up coming GCEs. (14 is not a great age to decide life's route methinks)

My choice was to follow technical or art subjects. I was best at Art, tech drawing, chemistry and physics. My art teacher wanted me to study for a place in art and design college (Bromley I think) but I decided in the end science was the future and ended up at college studying Chemistry.

I can't say I regret that. It gave me a decent living, but I can't help wondering where my artistic talent (limited maybe) would have taken me.

There are so many almost unnoticed events in life, any of which may have caused a fundemental change in life's course. I guess that's what bothers me when I take time out to think.

I watched a film trilogy years ago. I suspect I'm the only person who thinks it might be obscure. The Three Colours. Red. White. Blue. Similar vein. Maybe yours is more rational than mine. Happenstance. That's the US-derived concept, I think. Made a snappy word for the popularising of a theory anyway. I'm just a bagatelle ball really. I'm channelling things towards an outcome at the moment, but it's fairly trivial stuff in the great scheme (or no scheme) of things.

Paul, the main character was gifted through drugs extracted from drowed 'baby worms' with future sight. Apparently he could see all the directions his life could take depending on decisions and events all at the same time.

I have to say I think that would drive anybody stark staring mad. From what I recall from the books (been many years since I read them) it didn't go too well for him in the long run.

According to the great classical economists, that's pretty much how it works anyway. Ergo the wonderfully fair system of wealth distribution we have.
