[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

No solution to our problems
if God’s answer we despise,
try to modify his message
with inventions vain and lies.
    He sent Jesus, holy Saviour
    dying for us on the cross
    so we may not face the judgment;
    if we shun him, huge our loss.

It’s no service to our neighbours
if we preach philosophies
that don’t tell of Jesus dying
on a cross there to appease
righteous judgment on our failures,
bear the consequences full
so that we may know forgiveness:
    urgent message meant for all!

1 Corinthians 1:22-24

Christians all claim our teaching is based on the scripture, i.e the Bible, but then we don't read it as it is, what it says, and not the ultimate authority as God's Word, but we make the Bible say what we want it to say usually whatever is convenient. Or by leaving things out? It is dangerous even to say something and name things, but use your imagination. It's like fashion hey? Current trends.

We are all guilty. This is not a good thing it is playing god.

People can often twist something in the BIble and ignore those Bible passages that explain its real meaning, and claim some odd teaching is based on scripture, but the main teachings of the gospel  and certaingly about the substitutionary death of Christ for those who will accept him, are absolutely clear in scripture aren't they.

Sects often want to major on some triviality which is unhelpful, divisive and very dubiously claimed, and distract from concentrating on the character of God and a relationship with him in faith.

Yes in the end it comes down to interpretation, and indeed I have been victim too of sect "churches". And as you say, individual verses are taken completely out of contecs. They didn.t get far with me.

That is why there is an Apostle's Creed. But churches have even changed that (to suit them)...
