Hugs

Two arms enfolding
your friend warmly holding
briefly
gently pressing
expressing
love and sympathy
support and empathy
comfort, cheer
of affinity near;
but –
while this virus lurks
cautioned
hugs must be rationed
– only in bubbles
to slow down the troubles
of infections,
so –
our eyes over mask
endeavour the task
of flashing intentions
of hug’s reassurance
and warmth,
desiring
the germ’s disappearance,
and end of restrictions.

One can feel the pain over
One can feel the pain over the one gift that has been torm from us at present. The joy of a hug is beyond words. I was reminded the other day just how much we can smile with our eyes and the verse beginnine 'our eyes over the mask....' is so true.
I really enjoyed this simple, but oh so powerful work.

Hugs absent for many just now
Hugs absent for many just now. Yes, roll on better times.

Thankfully I get to hug my
Thankfully I get to hug my partner which is comforting, but for those people that are alone it must be torment to not beable to hug their loved ones. I did manage to hug my partners granddaughter before lockdown which was a bonus.
I just try and keep calm and breathe deeply. When we go to do the weekly shop people seem to smile with their eyes which is nice to see. I'm actually starting to get used to staying in, it's so much easier than rushing around to go out and the time still seems to fly by, but then we are lucky enough to have our hobbies and writing which makes life so much easier.
You summed up most peoples feelings in your poem and the hugs definitely matter.
Nice one Rhiannon.
Jenny.
