Getting Ready

Gone the rag sound of a bird alone
dropped on naked silence
between dumpsters' grinding regurgitations
from horizon's bridge
and fuzzy pulse of cars below.
In the woods, now, everywhere you turn, birds are
hanging out bright bunting of their songs
and leaves like hands extend their welcome
from winter deep in sleeving twigs.
Lichens cling and crust with teal frills
or airy frizz of faded jade, rainbow pricked
in drizzle, and some, a great revolutionary's cerebellum
in crinkled turquoise under day's curving
white cloud skull, while mosses
round rocks, with tiny fronds push
at Spring's edge, lushly emerald or acid green
so strong all barriers must fall

So strong all barriers must
So strong all barriers must fall. Yes, so much is happening just this week, busy birds and buds colouring up, there is no stopping nature. The first verse is all winter and then you unfurl the vigor spring. Wonderful.

I'm still not getting out much, Di, and so loved your description! and of the lichens too, abundant in your part of the world I should think. Rhiannon

"....everywhere you turn,
"....everywhere you turn, birds are hanging out bright bunting of their songs...". It is such a pleasure out walking as spring nears. I just love looking up seeing birds in trees singing. Super poem.

Give Tina a cuddle from me.
Give Tina a cuddle from me. It sounds great where you live and your son sounds like he's grown up in some wonderful surroundings...tell him he's very lucky. I hope he gets to live a full life and that the future is bright for him.
You take care and congrats on the gold cherries, well deserved.
Jenny.

I was in one of our local parks yesterday, thinking how glorious the birdsong sounded, so it's lovely to read this and find it so well captured in words. I love the fact that it's also for the young people in Myanmar. Beautiful poem.

A wonderful poem alive with promise. Spring's fronds have been pushing through here this week and it feels so, so good to know that change and better days lie ahead. Your poem crackles with that. Really lovely and congratulations on your poem of the week award. Well deserved.
