Wood Anemone
Woodland stars –
broad-petalled,
matt-white, bright.
Cowslip
Rich yellow cuplets,
ring joyfully.
Snake’s Head Fritillary
Fairy-skirt cowbells mauve,
faint, tessellated pattern of squares –
delicately waft.

How do you manage to come up
How do you manage to come up with such beautiful wording Rhiannon? And the photos just set your poem off perfectly.
Absolutely wonderful and a pleasure to read.

exquisite! trying to think of
exquisite! trying to think of the perfect word to match those you have chosen
this are as unfussy, delicate and gorgeous as the flowers you depict
I like the fritillary one best. I keep trying to grow them, last year they all flowered and it was magic and this year even the leaves haven't grown, which makes them seem even more magic :0) I hope they have spirited themselves away to your water meadows to have their fragile richness caught by a true bard! I think this description, though shorter, catches them even better than the one in your link, though that one's photo is the best picture I've ever seen of fritillaries. Your calendars must be very special!

Beautiful and fitting tribute
Beautiful and fitting tribute to three delightful flowers. I love 'fairy skirt' I have a few in a damp patch which they love, even a white one amoung the snakey purples, they really are otherwordly flowers. And those wood anenomes matt-white bright, shining in the dark woods. Absolutely gorgeous. Cowslips ring joyfully, they cheer me up on my dog walks.
