Before We Kissed Goodnight

Dear diary...remembering a time
in early 1970. Now I still feel the
same inside.
Once we danced in meadows
it was a hippy special time,
with sunshine on our faces
and gentle cool breezes sublime,
shared many happy moments
picking daisies creating flowery
chains, summer's silent embrace
ensured my memories would remain,
gathering fluffy dandelion seeds:
blowing heads away, we'd find out
if love was on the cards and smile,
“does he love me...yes or no?” We'd say.
How goes the youth of yesterday,
when hearts beat strong, days were
long; like morning dew fresh faces
absorbed vitality with boundless fortitude.
Now older and wiser wisdom give solace,
takes away fear of mysterious darkness;
as night approaches watching stars in inky
night, energy unveiling as we kissed goodnight.

made me think of stars being like fluffy white dandelion seeds sailing into the night, foretelling that you will find a loving partner, and then the last three words bring it all together, very peaceful, romantic poem :0)

Lovely cute poem Jenny. It's
Lovely cute poem Jenny. It's hard to believe we felt like that once but the stars are still there for us, bright and unchanging. I think you're right that if we think hard enough we can still feel that way. I love 'absorbed vitality with boundless fortitude' I see it in my teenage daughters and their friends.

There is a nice feeling to this poem. It almost makes me wish I had been a bit older in 1970 and could remember it better! But youth can be at any time. All of us experience these moments when we are free, or optimistic, carefree.

Yes, please rewind the mind
Yes, please rewind the mind to those sunny days of youth and love, such a perfect poem Jenny. You capture the longing but you also embrace the memory, knowing you still feel that love today. And the ending is pure and beautiful.."Older and wiser...watching the stars in inkly night, energy unveiling as we kissed goodnight."
