time’s travel
11/15/2020 7:00 p m
You called me “city slicker”
and taught me to climb trees
We rode our bicycles on the wind’s wings
and felt it’s freedom.
We dug deep holes in the summer sands, at Dennisport
And watched the tides flow over our castles and tunnels, returning them to their beginnings in the sea
We’ve always been close, you and I, all our lives
Though, through the years, time and space
became long between us,
We always managed to meet, on paths,
and walk and wander,
speaking of everything, catching each other up on I our lives lived since our last meeting.
This time, we chose our walk in the fall.
On a blustery day, with leaves swirling and whirling around us,
You took me by the hand and led me through small leaf hills, on a winding path in a thicket of maples,
Till suddenly light opened bright, onto a small fir park, in the middle of Newton.
We stood...breathing in the smell of fresh pine
from the tall trees swaying above us.
You looked at me and smiled.
“ What ?” I asked.
You answered “ Remember this place…Do you remember?”
I shook my head. “No...never been here “
“Oh yes...yes you were here"
You laughed.
I always loved your laugh.
“Oh yes you were here with me, many times”. "Remember those small pine bushes we used to play under, as kids?”
I suddenly breathed in a gulp of crisp air.
“Oh yes. I remember those. We’d ride our bikes to a special place and then find these great hiding bushes under which we would escape from the world “
Still smiling, You pointed up to the sky.
“Look up...go on…up there….”
Your arms stretched out to the heavens, as you said
“These…these are our bushes!”
In my mind, the seasons tumbled back. The tall fir trees above us seemed to vanish.
I could feel the small pine boughs, on my head and shoulders.
I was there with you, under our bushes, then
but then was now.
And we stood standing together, as we had done so often as children. We looked at each other
In that instant, we were sharing a splendid validation
A time travel,
A physical manifestation
of the passage of our lives lived.
It was wondrous to breathe in that place, that time, together, for those few moments…we were young…again.
Life is so precious
Life is so profound
If only we allow ourselves to wander those paths once walked
Winter and Spring have come and gone since then, and summer is upon us now.
We will not walk together again, you and I.
You have surely ridden away to other scapes, on the wind’s wings
You were a gift to me, for all my life.
Our walks, our talks, your beautiful voice, your wonderful laugh, now all live safe, in my heart, in my memory, forever.

Great!
Great! Going for summer here too! And visiting again the happy places of your childhood it is past so quickly.
Must say it's a blessing to have such close cousins I've got dozens. One or two are very special. All of them are. Our parents were busy there wasn't TV those days.
Interesting the huge font, it probably works better on a cellphone.
Goodnight! Tom
