Night Time Stalker
Hesitating, reluctant to sleep
The coal-hole night beat retreat
In and uncertain sleepless gloom
Mysterious shapes blurred the room
Fixing, straining, clawing for light
Half focused in peering fright
Ogres gathered in a menacing cluster
Quilt shielding strength is mustered
Gathering strength, multiplying courage
Emboldened now, comes the dawn
Hunch-backed sinister stalkers no longer gloat
An open wardrobe full of coats!

How often have we mistaken
How often have we mistaken shadows or objects for something that it's not? Your poem reminds me of a tree outside my bedroom window when I was young, that used to reflect in as fingers clawing my wall.
Great use of the I P.
Jenny.

Nicely creepy
I like the way you convey the vague sense of dread in the darkness, then the flash of humour at the end. Good one forest.

But what's behind the coats,
But what's behind the coats, I wonder...
Enjoyed this very much!
