anything green and alive
has been ripped out
torn up
scorched down
and paved in
mowing the lawn
is now something
you watch the neighbours do
scoffing at their lack of precision
steeped in claret
you catalogue the 17.7 hours
gained annually
another day
almost
to face the back of her bed-flattened hair
she sits close to the glass
the hard-edged slabbing
slate chips and plastic grass
less real for the rain
and wonders how long
she can keep going

I like the shift in tone in
I like the shift in tone in the third stanza. There's a sense desolation in the passing of time.
