The fog of morning was more like a welcome mat than a humid November day. Although vision was limited the air was fresh and without its normal buzz of mosquitoes. Wholesome lungs always enjoyed the plunge of breathing strongly and free.
I really enjoyed walking in the accolades of outdoor adventures – to thrust each foot forward in excited anticipation on a new trail. To feel leaves soften after each footfall and a surge of energy winding around unknown corners of woods and escalating to full flavour.
I yearned for the companionship and solitary confinement of outdoor settings. Whether it was hiking in wilderness territory, canoeing in a peaceful bay or tenting on an unknown island the clutch of Nature was irresistible. It was a special connection into my soul.
For years I relived those august memories. They followed me in the sunshine as I peeked from my back-veranda or stared across the front yard where a young family now plays. And I shuffle across the apt. floor to join them as I push my walker, wheels moving forward. Life calls.
