Toy Explosion …

… at Christmas …
So many toys sold –
away with the old!
Hide them from view,
make way for the new!
Presents in droves,
shortage of shelves,
tuck some away,
change over some day,
sell some from before
display the new-more.
Are there children in need? –
our toys seem to breed!
some we’ll take down
to charity shops in town.
Some new soon neglected
confusion, rejected:
instruction complications
need some adult explanations
or a puzzle too hard,
they soon discard.

A great poem Rhiannon, the final verse of which is right on the nail.
I rarely disclose this secret, so please don't tell a soul, but when my three kids were very small my wife and I bought them very little for Christmas or birthdays because such was the deluge of gifts from relatives (particularly grandparents) that ours would have just been lost in the confusion.
The words of your poem match my feelings perfectly.

The wrapping paper and the cardboard box were often seen as the most wonderful of gifts. It's only the givers and the parents who recognise what's really going on.
Oh for an orange. a lump of coal and a shiny penny.

This brought back memories :0) I agree about the boxes! The "puzzle too hard" was useful too as gave another thing to unwrap (the best bit) on Christmas morning, but then could seem new and interesting later in the year. You convey the excitement and commotion really well :0)

Nice rhyming and it seems so true, describing the aftermath of Christmas! I liked quite a few of your lines but especially the last one.
