Near Titley

Path mown through the bracken,
up the slope, over the humpy field
– sky so large –
cross stubble field,
then down woody shady tunnel –
gate on left, to reach the lake’s
near corner –
quiet calm watery cul-de-sac.
No grebes or heron, or king-fisher today,
bulrushes, water-lily leaves and stillness.
Backtrack, now seeing the southern views
towards the hills.

Your poem really has me
Your poem really has me longing for cooler Autumn days when I can get out into the countryside for long walks again. I can imagine it was good to get into the woody shade.
The photos set the poem off nicely.
Jenny.

Thankyou Rhiannon, I love
Thankyou Rhiannon, I love your walk poems :0) You are wonderful at describing, in a couple of words, so I feel like I have experienced your adventure, the differences in space and light and texture.
"bulrushes, water-lily leaves and stillness." with all those "l" somehow evoke a flatness? like sleeping water, and then the "ck" in backtrack more energetic

I loved 'over the humpy field
I loved 'over the humpy field' and 'sky so large' - really straightforward almost childlike descriptions that are so effective. It all seems to capture something about August as well.
