Crossing the Line

I slid across
our side-walk until
a magic carpet
of leaves hoisted me onto
the wind-
it’s a hot summer
night on the
edge of farewell
as Autumn’s flavour arrives
determined to keep
earlier torrid days
tucked away
at least
for a season.
