The mother of all the nations of the Commonwealth

has served us well for 70 years,

through thick and thin she was there,

sad times and happy times.

She always cared.

She would arrive on TV with a nice few words,

and we all felt much better.

 

She grew old, and still carried on.

She lost her Prince,

and slowly went downhill.

She met the new Prime Minister,

she was determined to the end to serve her country.

 

Privy Council cancelled,

we all thought it was strange,

as it was just a Zoom.

Little did we know,

that Queen Elizabeth II had laid down to die.

We were told she was resting,

then we heard the Queen was unwell,

followed by an announcement that she had passed,

and she was gone.

My wife Wendy Kirtley wrote this poem, remembering our Late Queen Elizabeth II, on 11/9/22. She dictated it, quite quickly and efficiently, while I typed it up for her. I have included it with Alfred's Jubilee Collection, which I have just created, as it concerns similar issues and events! I think it is quite a good summary of the Late Queen's demise and her legacy!

yes, this captures how quickly it all happened. I think she must have missed her husband so much, the one person always who could make her laugh

Thanks Di Hard. Wendy will appreciate what you have said. I agree she has captured how quickly the Queen went in the end. The Queen and Prince Philip do seem to have been a very successful match for each other, and I am sure she must have missed him very much.
