Grief and Comfort

Death, bereavement, loss and sadness
emptiness and change and chill;
though if the memories of who’s departed stir up thanks
the mourning isn’t gloom, and can encourage still
to hope and effort, vision , work,
and grief is lightened by the pearls of gladness
and we are more committed duties not to shirk.

And if the hope of life eternal
is shared by one who’s gone before
and those who mourn the passing,
their joy combines with all the sense of loss,
for frailty, sickness, weakness here
are now transformed into the life that has no tears
and will continue for eternal years …

Thanks, Tom, and thankfulness for her work and attitudes. Now prayer for new King and government, all need God's guidance and help as she acknowledged. Rhiannon

Queen Elizabeth took her Christian faith seriously. She was devout, by all accounts. Monday was a day of shared mourning. Your poem says so much, so appropriately. Paul

Thank you, Paul. It's been good that her faith is seen as promoting compassion and service and concern for others, and also that she has shown how it is combined with a strong sense of happiness, humour and 'twinkle', So many like to suggest that taith is gloomy, though of course, serious about sin and repentance, but good joy and warmth.

I haven't really been brought up with the wearing of black so much at bereavment and funerals. I understand it and wouldn't want a false brightness around, but it is good to remember the gratitude and happiness people are remembering, not just sadness and grief and loss. Rhiannon
