The Colours
Jennifer Pickup 11.11.2022
Red is the colour of those lost and blessed,
Red is the blood that the enemy shed,
Red is the badge in the heart of your chest,
Red is the flower that blooms for the dead.
Green is the colour in which they were crowned,
Green is the symbol of innocent youth,
Green is the grass that returned to the ground,
Green is the nature of wisdom and truth.
Black is the colour in which we are dressed,
Black is the storm-cloud that looms overhead,
Black is the memory we lay to rest,
Black is the day we remember the dead.
White is the colour of hope and of peace,
White is the flag to call truce and defeat,
White is the sound of the silence released,
White is the page where history repeats.

Original and creative while
Original and creative while ordered and respectful. A perfectly fitting tribute to those young men, unprepared individuals forced into both military order and bloody chaos. Beautifully done, I agree.

found the last part
found the last part particularly striking, the idea that peace is the silence before gunfire
