Autumn carpets

Autumn carpets don’t last long,
bright colour splashes turn to brown
then once more the trees get battered
by gales, remaining leaves
released and scattered
here and there upon the mulch:
enjoy the yellow sparkles
for soon these also will be gone.
Settle down to winter’s sepia shields:
earth, leaf scars, and scales of buds
protecting summer colour’s germ
‘til the warmth of spring return.

Splurged at the grocery store
Splurged at the grocery store on a pair of pointsettas. Fall is my favorite season because of the foilage, the colors and it's football season. Sepia shields, leaf scars: like that. Appreciate the read

I liked "colour's germ",
I liked "colour's germ", reminding me germ has more meanings than being ill, made me think of colours brewing away inside, like yeast, then bursting out with Spring warmth, or springing out :0)
Wonderful photos again, too!

There are plenty of leaves here this year
in Belgium many council authorities have decided not to clear the leaves from green spaces like before. They say it's better for the environment to let the leaves rot down over winter to provide food for the spring growth.
Not often council officials have good ideas
Lovely poem and pics. congrats on the cherries

Yes They clear streets and pavement efficiently,
bikes are used a lot so I guess it is important, but many parks, recreation areas and country paths aren't being cleared this year. My dog loves "snuffeling" under the leaf litter. :)
Oh and yes they are piling the leaves in places where people generally don't go (except daft dog walkers like me!)
