1949

An end of war,
blossoming joy,
as waiting girl
and returning boy
could now be wed
and optimism
in every heart
viewed the years ahead:
work hard, rebuild
new peace, fresh start;
A baby boom,
and then quite soon
a second wave
as siblings born
– no life of ease
yet, rations still
but much to please
and vows fulfil,
they celehrated
their gifts, the thrill
of family life
after war’s dark strife –
and so, half way
through ‘49
one fine hot day
to Stan and Nan
girl number two
was born
– so you
can realise why
that year is my
important date
to contemplate.

A poem can say so much, and
A poem can say so much, and you've captured that essence Rhiannon. Great idea for the I P too.

I always love reading your work and I enjoyed this one too. My late sister was born just as WW2 ended and I waited until rationing ended to make an appearance!

That is a lovely photo, what
That is a lovely photo, what a kind clever face, lit up by his daughrer :0) That it was remembered you were born on "a fine hot day" is wonderful, showing how you were treasured, I like that very much, but the whole poem is so full of life, and a rightness of love coming together, new life after war
