The Mind Of A Cat.

We have six cats, all with different personalities. Six little members of our family, some stronger, some weaker, two of them hate each other’s guts, even though they have both been done. Some are little eaters, two are big eaters, that includes the one that is never full.
Although there is definitely an hierarchy, there is one cat that stands out from them all.
He is the fearless, Clarence. He has some form of down syndrome, and when we read about him, it says they are “Fearless.” That is SO true of Clarence. He is also the friendliest, cat that we have, with Mini G, a close second. Clarence is huge, Mini G is small, they are both very lovely natured cats, they would make great adverts for having a pet.
When our grandson comes to visit, he picks up Clarence and puts him on his lap and he just stays there purring, and then he goes to sleep. If you get up, he will sit where you sat, and so will Mini G.
All our cats, love to sleep in the various cat beds, rugs, baskets, and bedding that I have placed around the living room. They all have their favourite, fad places to sleep, and then another cat will jump at the chance to get to the other cat’s favourite fad place, until the first cat finds a ‘new’ place to sleep.
Fearless, I mean Clarence, however does something no other cat in our house has ever done. He not just loves us, but he loves the other cats too, even the biggest and angriest cat, Hotel or by his name Paul has given him, Fat Bloke. Clarence is SO friendly, that when they are snuggly asleep in their desired spot, he will go over, and he is one of our largest cats, and sit on top of then, start cleaning himself and if possible, try and go to sleep. He has no boundary awareness skills. Observably, most cats don’t want to die from lack of air, or to be squashed to death, so they wriggle out from under his hefty body, and then go elsewhere. Clarence wins every time, the others put up a weak struggle, but they are no match for him. But all he wants is love, and to be right up and close, next to them, not much to ask in Clarence’s world.
He is the greediest cat that, we have, he has the softest fur and the roundest eyes.
On Tuesday I went to TKMaxx as they have their fabulous yellow sticker sales on in January, the last two weeks from work, that is why I have booked it off. Its my thing, I don’t spend money on Christmas gifts anymore, so money from that is ready, for this time, and it far cheaper than Christmas gifts. The yellow stickers on sale items, gets cheaper each time that it is not sold, until it is almost free, on the last day.
This can be any item in the yellow sticker sale. But if you have your eyes on anything, can you risk leaving it for another two days? Or will it still be there in two days’ time but now 85% cheaper?
In the past, I have bought some amazing things. I bought a huge triangle, very warm shawl, for £4 on the last day, that was a lot of money for the last day, but there were no tags on it at all to tell me, make, materials, previous price, but I loved it, so I bought it. After I had it about three months, I decided to wash it in the machine on 30 but when I took it out of the machine it became VERY tiny, I didn’t realize it was 100% wool. It was ruined, I was gutted, if I had known it was wool, I wouldn’t have washed it, so it became a sort of neck scarf instead, still warm but nothing special anymore.
I had gone to TKMaxx on Tuesday, and had a lovely rummage around and saw two items, that I was sure our cats would Love! The first item is a crocheted floppy hat by Zara, I have looked to see what the material is but nothing can be seen in the labels inside, it feels like it is either paper or straw, it is a lovely texture that I know they would love, it had many yellow stickers on, showing it had been reduced many times, and I got it for a bargain price of £1.
The second item looks like a metal bath that humans years ago would have a bath in by the open fire, it is ovel in shape and the sides go up if you are looking at it from the side. This beautiful item, I think it must be a child’s toy at the base, it is about 10” left to right and goes out wider as it gets higher, at the top, from left to right, it is about 15” maybe too small for Fat Bloke. I assume it is made of strong cardboard, and covered in pink and white gingham material, that was £4, much cheaper than a cat bed.
At home, I put the floppy hat on the coffee table where our cats sleep, and the new cat bed on a small nest of table by the wall. All the cats when they got the chance slept on the hat! They loved it, and who was the main one to sleep in the bath shaped type thing? Fat Bloke! It fits him SO snuggly it is like it was made to measure, I was chuffed to bits, I knew they would love it. When Hotel is out, Nanny sleeps in it too. So, both have been hits. Jonathan, who hates Hotel and Hotel hates Jonathan, has also slept, in it, but I know this is out of spite, but his efforts to stir, is wasted, as Hotel is out when he is in it.
Well, I have been away for a days with my Mum looking after her. My brother William, came round to where Mum and I were, so that I could go out for a few hours to TKMaxx. I went to two, and I saw and bought two other items, one is a posh washing up bowl, that is square in shape with the plug bit missing, it is nice and deep plenty of space for Clarence and Hotel. The second item that I bought them was a collapsible, plastic washing up square bowl, to it will be perfect in its flattened state or pulled up to open. Both reduced to £1.70 each.
When I see them all when I am back home on Monday, I will remove the large cardboard box that they had taken over, that can be thrown, and I will decide which other bedding I will also throw and put these two other new items in its place.
Clarence will still go and sleep on them, but there will be now four new nice bedding for them to spread out, and still be very happy.
I like to think, in some small way, I know the mind of a cat, when it comes to their Comfort.

This was so lovely to read. I
This was so lovely to read. I've had various cats over the years, now down to one, and it's always been a joy to see their different personalities. Obviously the cat I have now has her pick of sleeping spaces, and she usually spends a few days in each - apart from the times she just spreads across the sofa so no-one can sit down!

I really enjoyed reading
I really enjoyed reading about your cats and your shopping too. Clarence sounds wonderful. I lost one of mine to the road last year, on the very last of the superhot days and it honestly broke my heart. I've still got her brother, when he's not at the neighbour's house. They are all so very different as you've said and it sounds like you've given them brilliant names.
