In the days

of don't ask,

don't tell,

I didn't guess

and you didn't tell -

no, not with any Howard,

                         Williams,

                       Hawtrey

                 Carry On.

with no "glamour" pics

   just

           and a picture of Marilyn.

I guessed about George,

and it hit me - Wham!

when you said you hadn't,

that I was your Andrew Ridgeley

all the time.

I don't know how much it's changed, but I hope it has - those poor men (and women). Very clever last stanza

as people I served with tell me it's changed since don't ask don't tell. I first met this guy when coming out meant being thrown out. Things are so much better now.

I'm very glad to hear it. I remember listening to such sad accounts of people who were thrown out and have never had a proper apology

from what I'm told that's the attitude now. When I first joined in the early 80's, we all knew we HAD to be serving alongside gay personnel, but you had absolutely no clue which of your comrades were, if you weren't gay yourself. Guys and gals were generally so far in the closet they were in Narnia, there was no way they'd trust a straight guy with their secret. After I'd left in 2005, someone I'd known for over 30 years came out at his leaving barrel (of beer)!
