Nothing Concrete

Locked up like a prisoner she cried. Dressed in pyjama bottoms and a t-shirt, devoid of underwear or socks, even a bra, she lay. The blue mattress underneath unworthy of a sheet, a blanket, or even a pillow. She looked down seeing only 10 toes with a bluish hue to them. They were cold.
She screamed petrified. People rushed towards her, danger all around. They handed her a tablet. She obliged and took it. She thought if she did something for them that they would do something for her. She felt numb. Her eyes like the anchor from a boat waiting to dock, close.
Rudely awakened she sighed. They took her to a room far away. The room was through locked doors that felt unsafe. Insects were everywhere, they crawled under her skin! The tiles were cold on her bare feet. The aliens she ran from were visible. She was scared. They made sure she heeled to their side like an animal.
The far away room was full. They started to talk about her. She looked up and found herself on a stage in a room full of ‘professionals’ who threw question after question at her. She gave the obligatory answers in the hope that, if they were the right ones, she could go free. It didn’t work! When it was over they walked her back to her room through the locked doors once again. She found her face wet! She cried, over what, she didn’t know! She slept.
Jolted awake they put her into a tiny room, her body trembled with fear. An alarm went off in the distance. She was left alone, a shiny brass object left on the table. She sat there frozen, not knowing what to do. She knew the brass object was like a red carpet to freedom. She grabbed it and opened a door. She found herself in a corridor with a lot of options. Without thinking she walked down the corridor, a beacon of light surrounded her exit. She was captivated by the twinkling and was drawn towards it. People stared at her as she passed by them. The shiny brass object came in handy. She handed it to the twinkling door, deafened by alarms.
Petrified she ran, ran away from the sound towards the light. The people followed close behind. She was scared. The more frightened she became the faster she ran. She ran down corridors and through doors until freedom! Light shone, natural light, something she hadn’t seen in a long time. She was overwhelmed by the taste of the air…the freedom.
She looked over her shoulder, the people in hot pursuit. The air blew through her hair as she headed towards the gate, towards the freedom she yearned for. Just as she got there she found herself on the ground, the people pulling out of her. They dragged her through corridors and doors that once shone brightly, their light gone, extinguished. They brought her to her room. They once again gave her a tablet. She looked down at her feet. They were bleeding. Her eyes shut, laden by the weight of the anchors again.

A nightmare; that's what this
A nightmare; that's what this felt like; a never ending dream of horror. Tragic, that she almost tasted freedom but failed in her attempt to flee. The ending is powerful in its looping her back to captivity.
