A Hike in the Woods

Today began as a wet 

adventure with 

an ethereal mist pasting

a cream of moisture

on my face as footsteps

landed softly on a

never-ending ribbon

of pathway leading to a

secluded valley

across two streams

gurgling freedom

in a race around corners

which excited me. Sounds

of a loon nearby and

frogs croaking

their raucous bellows

added to the menu.

I inhaled deeply to taste

the freshness of this land

and it felt good.
