Mother Deer

Each foot-fall begins

an army of thrusts-

the boldness of a

mother deer

on behalf of two

young ones

their dependence on

the older lady

complete

and unabashed.

They need her-

to teach them

survival skills in

a world of challenge

and they do complete a

course of necessity

until they too are

prepared to teach their

own babies one day.
