Knowing One's Onions

I have recently started
to do my shopping online.
It is a slow process
but I think I'm doing fine.
A list of available poultry
is spread over three pages;
to find the one I need
it's going to take ages.
I want a chicken breast;
there are plenty to see.
They are shown, I notice,
in colour, on page three.
I wish to cook a dish
to please la signora,
I am talking, of course,
of pollo alla cacciatora.
Maybe you already know
what l will have to do,
but if you are in the dark
I'll gladly give you a clue.
If one knows his onions
he'll know that every
ingredient is important
like carrots and celery,
plus extra virgin oil.
that has to be genuine.
garlic, salt and pepper,
a splash of red wine,
in addition to tomatoes,
rosemary and parsley.
A meal to be enjoyed
completely not partly.

Nice one Luigi.
Nice one Luigi.
A tiny bit cheeky. That made me smile.

Ah now, Luigi. I don't doubt
Ah now, Luigi. I don't doubt for a minute that it's a true tale. It still made me smile though.
