Stirring Forest

As Autumn turns to Winter's chill,
forest hunger draws us where fallen
dead leaves scrunch beneath boots.
Whispered breath of timid deer in
brushwood, sensing crack – cracking
of twigs.
Woodpecker no longer tap – tapping;
flies away as storm clouds are seen
drifting; ghost wind begins moaning,
in sky battle launches into crazy rage;
rain – thunder – lightening flashing.
Angry violent howling storm lashing,
batters trees; swishing – swooshing,
gales whistling whisking up a frenzy;
as we cower mighty tree weakens...
collapses, lands with forceful thud;
bodies tremble...hearts pulsating by
earth's reverberating, we gasp with
shock; heavy panting as we run for
cover, finally perilous fear ending.
My attempt at the I. P.
Not sure if it's right,
but hey – ho! I had a go.

You have used quite a few
You have used quite a few onomatopaeic words Jenny. I particularly liked
collapses, lands with forceful thump; which being the end of the little section gives the real feeling of the shock and collapse! Rhiannon

I loved "forest hunger" but
I loved "forest hunger" but lots of other descriptions too! "whisking up a frenzy" is wonderful, and how you have "boots" and "battle" and "batter". Really enjoyed, Thankyou

Atmospheric and evocative. Enjoyed, Jenny. Paul

I think there are forests
I think there are forests in Magoebaskloof and Blyderivier Canyon but they are partly destroyed to make way for alien plantations, which are stone dead not a mouse stirring, total silence. The Knysna forest Jacques spoke of must be incredible the animals too the elephants especially are world famous. This forest has so far been preserved.
Keep well! Tom
