The Sun breaches the horizon
stoking early morning mist
into a fiery eastern glare.
A field of young maize
marshalled into lines march
into the haze; frozen green
mops of fading colour.
A distant copse a purple silhouette
against an indistinct sky.
The Sun climbs higher greeted
by the sound of nature.
The eerie screaming bark
of Roe Deer preparing for
a day in hiding.
The familiar Blackbird melody.
Repetitive songs of Warblers, Tits
and Chaffinch.
A Cockerel replies
to his rival echo.
A delicate declaration of a Robin
confirming he owns his patch.
The warming Sun chases off the mist.
Colours return, flecked with morning gold.
The scene is set.
The curtain raises on a perfect summer day.

Early mornings in the summer
Early mornings in the summer are one of my favourite times, and you've captured them here beautifully (a bit too well tbh, now the mornings are so dark - it's just rubbing it in!) Well done Ed

I loved "delicate declaration
I loved "delicate declaration of a Robin", all your sounds slipping into the silence before humans, as they have for thousands of years

You've captured the sunrise
You've captured the sunrise and all the scenes of an early summer morning perfectly in this poem Ed. I particularly loved the colours of the sky.
Beautifully done.
Jenny.
