Recently I have been watching a lot of Law & Order on the telly and two of the actors have names that it seems they do not like, and so instead of their names shown, it is the letter shown instead. I did wonder what the letters meant that they didn’t want showing in the credits, and finally yesterday I Googled it to see what they were.
S. Epatha Merkerson the S. is for Sharon and Jesse L. Martin the L. is for Lamont.
One of my brothers he was known all his life by his middle name only. It wasn’t until the last few years of his life, did we call him by his first name, for he made it known that was his wish, so often we would slip and call him by what we had always called him.
My daughter Meghan has two middle names, I chose one and Paul chose the other, I didn’t like his choice at all, and Meghan hates the name that he chose.
Daniel our son has more than two middle names, all chosen by Paul, for their meanings. Daniel loves them all.
I have a middle name, I love it, but I love my Christan name too, but when I was younger, I hated my Christian name until I was fourteen. Then I decided to like it. I would not have chosen my middle name, for my Christian name instead, for me that wasn’t an option. It didn’t suit me.
My Mum hates her middle name, it is a Very famous name all over the world. My god mother also disliked her Christian name and only ever used her middle name and was only ever known, by it. Her signature still includes her Christian initial A. and her middle name. To be fair the name she chose to be called by, really suited her. Her Christian name was I suppose very old fashioned.
My Husband does not have a middle name! which is think is quite odd. Some people have what seems like an odd name. Maybe it is a family name, usually it is very important to the parent and in memory of a loved one or a special family member.
Christian names and middle names are important, and are given after great thought. Some people their names really suit them, some, their names do not suit them at all!
Celebrities give their kids silly names, poor kids, it is almost to be expected. But I suppose if they are rich, they won’t be bullied at school.
I think the strangest name I heard recently, and I know the person, it is their relation, the child is called Envy! A friend of mine she is much younger than I, she has called her son Dempsey, I said, “As in Dempsey and Makepeace?” She was shocked that SO many people my age had said the same thing to her. I asked her, “Do you know the meaning?” She said, “Yes, it is an old Irish name and it means Proud.”
I wonder what is the origin of middle names? I need to Google it.

The way names are given and
The way names are given and and messed about with fascinates me. It's usually the case that a lot of thought has gone into them but also sometimes very little thought at a all e.g. my friend's sister Teresa Green.
I'd love to know the thinking behind using the name Peggy for people whose real name is Margaret.
My name on my birth certificate is Terence but I've been called Terry since I was seconds old. For internet anonimity purposes I use Turlough which is the Irish word for Terence and, in my opinion, sounds much better.
So would it be pretentious of me to claim that I am named after Turlough O'Carolan, the blind 17th century harpist and composer of some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard? Turlough is also the Irish word for a small lake that dries up in the summer, so whenever you see a muddy puddle you could think of me.
Any road, your writing here is interesting and it got my mind working on a lazy Saturday afternoon. So thank you for that.
Turlough

I go by either my middle name
I go by either my middle name or the initials of my first and middle; only mama and sissy call me by my first name. Much obliged for the read.
