Today I saw a lady who lives at the bottom of my road, I do not see her very often, I was in my favourite shop at the time, TKMaxx. She told me about her mother-in-law. She told me, “She is very ill, she was in hospital, because she had difficulty breathing, also she finds it very hard to swallow.”
I asked, hearing the sad news, “Has she lost weight?” Sara replied, “Yes a lot.” I asked, “How old is she?” Sara told me, “Eighty-six,” I told Sara, “I cannot imagine what she must be feeling, SO ill not able to breathe and not able to eat or drink.”
Sara said, “Today they have sent her home to die!” I was shocked, and said, “If she was a dog, they would not do that, there would be uproar!”
I asked Sara, “What is her name?” She said, “Niamh.”
I know people are sent home to die, and some want to die at home. I thought about her life, when I was back home, and all the nice things she must have done and the battles fought and won, and now to be, old, unknown to us all and struggling for breath, starving and thirsty.
I hope she can pray, at this very lonely, and difficult time for her and for her family.

What a beautiful photograph
What a beautiful photograph Maxine. I hope she's being cared for by her family, and has proper medical help even though she's at home.

I hope something can be done
I hope something can be done to minimise this lady's suffering. You're correct about dogs; when my dog reached the end I was very careful to detach myself emotionally so that his suffering was minimal. I'm with you on TKMaxx, I'm not near one anymore, I miss it but it's better for my bank balance..
