Moving country in February

The streetlight casts rainbows on my window
And our neighbour irritated me yesterday
The daffodils, my soul's winter knights, pierce the grey
Blades of green, balmy pillows of yellow
We're down to two boxes in the new flat
Three paintings to hang up, six lightbulbs to replace
Last night, I ordered a flowery bathroom mat
Tiny anchors tethering me in place
How frantically we strive to make a home
How sluggish is the painting/building/fixing
How itchy our bodies are to leave and roam
Even before the paint has finished drying
A dance of grey and green, of giggle and groan
Same frenzy slog leading winter into spring

“daffodils, my soul’s winter
“daffodils, my soul’s winter knights,...” What a beautiful metaphor. I also like the line about the irritating neighbor; it was unexpected and that was perfect.

I loved the daffodil bit, too
I loved the daffodil bit, too :0) And the neighbour and bathmat. You made me think of birds building their nests in Spring, too

We are enjoying some great
We are enjoying some great Spring themed poems now; and I liked how here you've made the new flat almost like a new nest, I just kpet thinking of our own nesting birds - and that metaphor! Superb!
