Columbine:
drooping bells to charm not chime
in the wild,
velvet blue,
creamy centre of many stamens;;
multilayered pink flowers self-seed in our yard
stand erect to display their treasure,
both have dainty, soft, sculpted lobed leaves
fanning out.

I have them growing wild in my garden too, but they aren't as advanced as yours yet. Aren't they lovely? Thank you for this lovely little poem Rhiannon

Thank you, but no the pic is from a previous year, they aren't as advanced as that here yet.  They seem to love growing against the wall! I love the wild ones and these! Rhiannon

Glad you chose to honour them with one of your wonderful poems! I have always thought they are magical, fairytale flowers, they have such complex shapes, don't they? Wonder how grannies must have looked very flamboyant if their bonnets really were like that :0)

Thank you. I do so like them, and it has been lovely to see them come up each year around the edges unexpectedly. And the wild ones are delightful, Yes, the ones in gardens seem to have a lot of variety in lovely  shape and colour. I had read recently that they are called Granny's bonnets or nightcaps. I am more familiar with the wood anenomes being called Granny's nightcaps.

This is lovely, Rhiannon. They do like to put themselves forward as volunteers in the garden and with endless colour combinations and slight variations in shape, to charm not chime. Even the unopened buds are so pretty.

We have similar here Rhiannon but they are regarded as a weed, often grow on a road side. "Cosmos" something like that. I like all the pruple makes me think of our Jacaranda City. what a spectacle in October.

We have a different garden flower called Cosmos, but they come in lovely variations of colour too.

That deep velvety purpley blue of the wild columbine  is lovely. I had never heard of Jacanda city and its 'purple days', and have just looked it up. Thank you. A bit like Japan's cherry blossom days.

No, I don't think there are purple cherries on ABC! Rhiannon
