This morning I got up
and felt inspired.
I'm going to do
what I always desired:
to write a bestseller.
I shall ring my daughter
and tell her.
She is a copywriter
and has agreed
to check the layout
and to proofread.
I have no doubt
her scrutiny is first-class
because we all know
she's a clever lass.
How much paper
will my book require?
I hope lots of reams,
not just a quire.
It's one of my dreams
to be a philosopher
and explore many themes.
I may not write a novel
but my memoir
to talk of the day
I worked in Harry's bar.
I expected a good pay
but the wages were low
so decided not to stay
My project is off
and I'll tell you why:
I thought it might excite
but it was pie in the sky.
I'm told that what I write
not only is unbelievable,
the narrative is trite.

Cassius Clay
Cassius Clay became Mohammed Ali on turning to Islam, world champion and one of the greatest of all heavyweight boxers. He was quoted as saying of Christianity "It's all a pie in the sky when you're bye-and-bye”.
Enjoyed your poem! Remember? Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!
