Velvety, soft petal, sepal, tepal
deepest purple
merging into
lemon and white base

protecting the
pollen holders
and the incipient seeds
awaiting fertilization,

and giving pleasure
by its beauty.

(lower picture has some tepals dropped off. The tepals of tulip all look the same, but are regarded as, equivalent to what are outer sepals and inner petals - differeing from each other - in most flowers.)

Breathtaking is right - amazing isn't it? I didn't realise there were different names for each section either (in fact I thought you'd misspelled petals at first) - thank you!

Thanks. Yes, I was learning there too. It is as if they have sort-of two rows of 'petals' instead of one row of green sepals bent back after covering the folded up row of petals in the bud. I was just so thrilled on picking up the petals that were dropping off indoors and seeing their exquisite beauty and trying to photograph it.

Rhiannon have you tried to "press" flowers for bookmarks? It doesn't work well they are very brittle when dry. Mine is always at Psalm 87.

No, I haven't personally, but they can be very delicate reminders, but of course the real live petal has much more beauty.

Nice to have such as bookmarks though. Psalm 87 reminds of the wonder that we from all the gentile nations are able to be part of God's city now, that is eternal, and his workmanship. Rhiannon

What you can do is stick it with cellophane (sticky) tape and then press it in the book, of course it's permanent then. If you try to remove the dried flowers you might damage the page.
