Void
By D G Moody
- 403 reads
Every night I take off my skin
and leave it beside my bed.
In the morning, I put it on again
to contain the void that I dread.
Inside my skin there’s nothing,
just an empty hollow space,
while outside there is that me
trying to show a happy face.
What will be shall always be
when, at my death they’ll see
there was nothing left of me to then melt into empty space.

You've captured something
You've captured something neatly here,
So sad to be afraid for others to know our real concerns and fears, though we can all share that fear to some extent. But trusted friendships so good and work both ways. So often much of our interactions with others are performative - we do what we feel is required or wanted, and the idea of putting on a skin fits very well. A bleak vision, but sadly accurate.

"there was nothing left of me to then melt into empty space'. Well, sounds like some or other best case scenario.
