“Just a spoonful of sugar halps the medicine go down …
in a most delighful way”

but not with that awful
strawberry-pink taste and smell.
It makes me feel sick.’
“Just shut your eyes, and hold your nose,
and swallow – quick!
and down it goes!
– in a rather unhappy way!”
    What a waste,
    their adding that
    strawberry taste!

Gosh! I now remember from childhood this pink gloop. But what was it? Anyway great poem Rhiannon.

Thanks. Famously it was the pain-relief medicine, but I think a lot of doctor's medicines eg antibiotics also did it for children's medicines. Add sugar and a strawberry colour/taste! Rhiannon

My dear wife has also reminded me of Calpol, which they used to give kids in bucket fulls.

Yes, , a spponful of Calpol sometimes seemed to stop an incipient trouble! Rhiannon

Will have mine with a strawberry milkshake thanks! (not the bubble gum one). The cough syrup you can drink yourself.

! My daaughter when young would have been willing to put up with swallowing the straight medicine or combined with sugar, but comibined with the pink strawberry she did not like! Rhiannon
