I ride the hag back
through truffled scurf.
Unmoved, arms unclutching
I stay
what was there to reach?
untouching as that voice crackles
down the black shoreline.
The wind whips into splinters
glances cold, stings thinner;
did it ever settle?
it shifted once, pre-formed
was it ever warmer?
but grew heavy in softness
and saltmist warped the wood.

Wonderful. Seamus Heaney's
Wonderful. Seamus Heaney's earthy textures, but sparser and more sensual and questioning. "through truffled scurf" and "saltmist warped the wood" are just fantastic.
There's a songwriter I used to listen to called Joanna Newsom who had a wonderful way with words, but the lack of meaning behind them really just made her songs pleasant rather than what I would have wanted them to be so I stopped listening. If only she could have taken a lesson from you. Here's an excerpt from her song entitled Bridges and Balloons - perhaps you'll see what I am saying?
The sight of bridges and balloons
Makes calm canaries irritable
And they caw and claw all afternoon
Catenaries and dirigibles
Brace and buoy the living room
A loom of metals warp woof wimble
And a thimbles worth of milky moon
Can touch hearts larger than a thimble

this is brilliant! a minimalist expression of a moment in time, of a relentless nature, of wind "whipping into splinters" " but grew heavy in softness" I just love this! Thank you for sharing!
