Eurydice

The violets grow
to bury my lyre.
If love did not follow
I would not look back.
Cast in long shadow
the violets grow
Heard a slip, saw her swallowed;
if love did not follow
in the winnowing meadow.
In place of her fire
up from the hollow
for a moment, one crack—
the violets grow
to bury my lyre.
if love did not follow
I would not look back.

violet
There is a difference between purple and violet I didn't know that, violet is the band in the rainbow next to purple,.
"If love did not follow I would not look back". There was recently an old pop song on the radio, "I love you, I love you, and where you go I'll folow, I'll follow..." Makes one think of Ruth hey? And Naomi.
There is a sadness in this poem as if you need to say something but it is forbidden. To be honest I don't like this one so much.

Sad but very beautiful IP
Sad but very beautiful IP response. Violet/purple was the first colour allowed to mourners I believe (when there were rules for that). Thank you queen beatle - and another golden cherry well deserved

Such a beautifully expressed
Such a beautifully expressed poem of a tragic lost love. You captured the story perfectly.
