exisitence..like breathing only quieter

Hello,
Long time since I last popped in, but I moved to Spain and had to wait 6 months to get online.
I am looking for help; I am making a piece of public art for a site in Bow, (London.) It is a traditional looking column with a statue on the top. Only the statue is fed up of standing and is kneeling down staring into the square. On the pillar I want to put 2 pieces of text; one a quote or equation pointing out the unlikelyness and miraculous nature of our existence.

The second saying something along the lines of "how poor this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare." But this poem is too well known I think to use.

I want the people living around it to take a minute to stop and reflect without it being too corny or patronising.
Any ideas?

Like the idea - will you be posting a photo of it on the internet somewhere? Just a thought... how about writing your own poem? "P"

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

I will be posting a picture on my site www.sirren.co.uk as soon as it is done. i don't want to write something as my poetry is pretty awful!

Sirren - how good to have you along again! How about this one from Joseph Campbell for the first: "The myth is you." Too off the wall? I'll dig into my books and try and find a better one. And how about this for the second: "Whoever communicates to his brothers in suffering the secret splendour of his dreams acts upon the surrounding society like a solvent, and makes all who understand him, often without their realisation, outlaws and rebels." Pierre Quillard. Those both come Wild Ducks Flying Backwards - the collection of the short writings of Tom Robbins so they are what I had to hand in the office. More later!
I've always liked "this too will pass" it makes me reflect on the transient nature of everything from grief to wonder to life itself.
Yes Ely I like this one too, another one I like when I am feeling low is, "the darkest hour is the hour before the dawn." Still it is hard to narrow it down to just one or two lines.

'With great power comes great responsibility'...!
