C - Call upon my mercy
By Jack Cade
- 975 reads
The face of these people stood on a rock
and called to me and asked me why I stood
with my heels to the riflefire of his speech
why I would not turn around and applaud
the call to arms
The stoker in the street stood with his child
and his poker asking what right I had
to dodge his angry strokes. We workers
are oppressed by the smiling faces, shirted hands
of death
Well then call upon my mercy
but don't call upon my duty
Call upon my reason
but don't call upon my rage
Call upon my kindness
but don't call upon my vanity
Summon me for sacrifice
Then we may talk
The vendor on the corner hollered into the crowd
Advertised his pamphlets and his papers
He asked me don't you want to know
the truth according to my laws and allies
not our enemies
Justice went busking in a red light district
Sang a song called Just Who Am I Now?
"You claim to be my servants, humble, abiding,
but it seems to me I serve you and your
many differences."
Well you call upon my duty
but never on my mercy
You call on my disgust, yes
but rarely on my pity
You prey upon my fear in
your sly pursuit of terror
You plead for my agreement
but not for my discussion
You threaten me and hunt me
then ask me why I turn away
Do you think I am simply lazier than you?
Idiot.
