I glide on glass wings through the amethyst night
My grandfather throws up his arms as I pass
His medals shining with the light bulbs in the sky
Machine gun resting at his side
I throw down a childish kiss
It lands on his bald head and leaves a pink mark
I smell his tobacco fragrance and take the sweets from his pocket
He tickles my chin and I laugh
Amanda from infant school hands me a paper doll
I am reborn again in childhood
I pretend I don't see her hair falling through the clouds
The plaque around her neck still boasts "leukaemia"
I touch her blind eyes and she sees me again
We talk about Michael Jackson till the wind carries me on
I shout back
"I will meet you here tomorrow"
I drift endlessly through the rainbow of my dreams
My body effervescent
My arms out stretched
I see others in this world and I call to them
The boy from the boys school
The noose now gone from his neck
I chase him round the playground but cannot catch him
He floats away before I have chance to hold him
Lost forever, till the next time...
I fly over cities unknown, grabbing souvenirs from the rooftops
My wings beat a steady rhythm above my head
I see my past in Technicolor clarity
My friends, my family
And old enemies
I can do whatever I please, go where my mind chooses
Pleasure and pain mingle as one
Then, into hateful reality I am crudely pulled
The umbilical cord from my mind to alarm clock
Tears me from dreams comforting womb
I am still born, blind eyes unseeing for a moment
Like my old friend now evaporated in the ground
My grandfather rustles his pocket full of sweets
The boy from school gasps out loud
They drift away with wings so swift, so silent
My bedroom, void of rainbow, belches cold breath
I grieve, shedding dry tears
Rub the bliss from my eyes
Pull on the grey skin of the day....
