Death of Life
Linger not, oh death of life,
pass yonder darkened door;
n'ere to shine thy face again,
or walk across my floor.
Take with thee a promise kept,
a solemn, standing vow,
you will not take a friend again,
nor kin will I allow;
Lest thou also bear me with them,
so crying I'll not stay.
For I'll not grieve to heal again,
till you come another day.
Unequal is the game thee plays,
for thee plays by thine own rules.
And I am tired and weakened by
your blows so harsh and cruel.
Linger not, oh death of life;
pass yonder darkened door.
N'ere to shine thy face again
or walk across my floor.
