'There was a boy, 21
Soft baby skin, plump hard muscles
Who I used to see every now and again
Christ, you said, that's not
Love darling some kind of
Arrangement like that
That's not love darling
Have a bit of self respect
As you bombed down the
Stairs to the tube one night'
From Boy by Chris Savage King
In answer......
Shivering home to love
That's not love darling!
Where is my self-respect?
Someone else took it home
From the cloakroom in that club
Found my ticket and stole it
And I am left without morals.
I shiver my way home to love
And am offered jackets of sinewy casual sex
To keep me warm
On the outside
On the inside I am cold
Beyond freezing, minus 10 and falling
Falling for you and your heart of ice
You give me gloves of sordidness
A hat of repression
And a scarf to bind tightly
Around my insecurities
You are very warm I notice?
You wear my self-respect as a trophy
(thieving git!)
I shiver my way home to love
Stopping only to buy wool.
At home I knit self-respect into a blanket
That covers me
Warm again, knitted to my skin
That's not love, I say
Here is my self-respect darling!
