I am a stranger in a strange land,
The voices that pass me I don't understand,
I left home an hour ago,
Now I'm in a place that I don't know
I am the eyes that follow you around,
I am the ears that listen to the sounds,
I watch the faces and study the features,
I have the mind of a thousand creatures.
I see the satin, I see the lace,
I see the girl with the smiling face,
I watch the woman who studies a frock,
While a mother chooses her daughter's socks.
A chink in a curtain offers a view
Of a lady trying a dress of blue,
My girl fixes her tangled hair
As I stand and fidget and wish I wasn't there.
