Wednesday

Wednesday's child is born too late
his mother had to be induced
he just didn't want to come into the world
just yet.
Even now,
as an adult,
he is always arriving after everyone else.
"Tardy, tardy, tardy."
All of his report cards&;#8230;
"Needs improvement"
they always said,
"Must work on his punctuality".
It was the worst in junior high,
did anyone actually like their middle school years?
when he would show up late to class.
They had pushed him
down the stairs-
books crashing,
dropping down each stair
one
by
one.
Cringing in his embarrassment&;#8230;
Like the time he accidentally threw out his retainer.
Scrounging thru everybody's trash
like a homeless person searching for his next meal&;#8230;
Wednesday's child arrived to his life fashionably late
last one to have a pair of Jordache
last in class to get a Trapper Keeper.
Even now, as an adult,
he still didn't own an SUV,
but of THAT
he was proud.
In fact, his mother used to say
that he'd be late to his own funeral.
That was just fine
with him-
Wednesday's child, late as ever
was in NO rush
to die.
